I received an email today which might be of use to you.

Before sleep rub Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet and then put on a pair of socks.

As per the email this could help to relief persistant heavy coughing for children and adult and this is a much simply way than taking medicine.

I guess there is no harm in trying it.
