Overall Panasonic Lumix function is better than Nikon S5, but Nikon with lower price (Nikon is one of the top brand in DSLR but not in DC)

Either each one got there own advantage:

Lumix: Avoid-Virbal function, sharp, smart outlook, must bring backup batteries to avoid battery low

Nikon S5: DC function, low price (there is a special price offer in Fortress a month ago)
