Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Nillie_mami,
Thanks for the advice. I eat canned light tuna because it's in the list of "low mercury" in an OB/GYN pamphlet my doc gave to me. Originally I like to eat steamed fish la, sashumi la.... Now I even cannot THINK of them! - it triggers my nausea...

whalebb,
See if this part III will be faster or not? My stomach does not like milk now (previously I do...) and so I eat cheese. I think the day I have headache is because I ate too many cheese!

Natmama,
I did not gain weight at all... although my tummy really grows bigger already. That means I got thinner???

Marble,
Thank you! I tried all kinds of things suggested by mom here. So far, chicken soup helps. Today I buy Kraft cheese crackers - they are small and salty and seem to help too!
Remember u mentioned bird nest long time ago? I got your advice and bought quite an amount from HK this time  How much did u eat each morning?
There is a Ross just next to my apartment, I bought a A-skirt and a pant from it already. But it's still not easy because I am looking for petite size with more allowance on the waist...

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Dear Marble,
so.. when I can get the "kan Yee" and the "Canton Pink yum".. from internet or I have to buy from the store?
I am going to try both... my father said that use writing board is not as easy as I think.. so he does suggust me to use (9 square), then he recognise.. I don't know the chinese words writing order..
I learn Chinese when I was 9years old.. so I did not pick it up very well.. failed in chinese since Grade 3.. never passed once thru high school.. but I have a Grade 10 student's level ga.. :)
That's why I wanna try.
both writing board and typing method..

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Hey hey,
Seem.. there will be some rooster babies coming soon!!!!
Dear all mom to be....
when the date come soon.. left me the address (but not before Mar 8, my big day... for nursing verification exam wor).. then I will start to work on knitting newborn socks again.. hee hee.. I asked my friend to bring me some cotton wool, very soft.. Amanda got a lot, all lovely colours.. pink, light yellow, light purple, light green.. I can knit lovely thing when exam finished.
if all mom to be wanna give their newborn a surprise, need to give me a notice sin.. ok? need time to knit, and post la..
also, if you got the style, forward them to me, see if I can make it.. ok?
I still remember my old grandma said, baby born, surround with loves.. are the most lucky baby. So, since I knew I was pregnant, I knit every day.. very hard, I bought 5 japanese knitting books.. and started from the easiest one, finally, Amanda got jumpers, dresses, cardicans, socks, scrafts, glovers, hats, night gown, infant toys etc...
and my grandma used cloth to sew a lion's head hat for amanda.. very old traditional custom.. my husby loves it very much, we keep it in HSBC (HK) safety box.. ha ha.. not here la.. that is too important and priceness gift..
so.. if anyone wanna have something for the coming newborn... keep in mind and tell me after my exam lor..

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Nillie_mami,
How do I share bb photos in signature line just like you did?
One of my high school (hk) best friends used to live in Staten Island when she was going to college.

Greentree,
I'm sure your son will be the same!

Marble,
Happy Moving! I have the same question as Nillie_mami...where can I buy the thing for writing Chinese?? Please advise.
Does your older son get jealous when you hold bb son?

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Shiba-Inu,
Congratulations! I vomited a lot when I was pregnant with my 2 kids. My record was 9 times a day! I had plastic bags with me all the time! I even brought the plastic bag with me when I was showing properties. One time, I had my buyers checked out the exterior & the backyard first when I was vomiting outside. I didn't scare them away and they thought it was totally normal!
For maternity outfit, check out stores like Target, Motherhood (at the malls), Gap (expensive), Old Navy...

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Shiba-Inu,

As long as you gain along the guideline, then it's okay. I lost couple pounds in my 1st trimester too becuz of the nausea. Did you get a chance to check out "mimi maternity" store in old town pasadena. It's in Paseo Colorado Pasadena. They have really nice maternity clothes and the xs or sm will fit asian women. I got some compliments from my ob/gyn My idea was, since you will only be pregnant for a short period throughout your life, why not look your best and feel good about it every moment. I loved going shopping for clothes for my big belly when I was pregnant

Marble,

It's nice your husband can stay with you. I'm sure your life will get even easier when the part time help comes. I know it's hard but try to take it easy

I wonder how babygigi and leohannah is doing  Haven't heard from them for a few days now

Marble,

Do you think Nicholas is trying to get your attention by doing all those naughty things? Sometimes the older baby tends to do that when the new bb arrives....maybe he is a little jealous

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Little Fat Man,
if i remember correctly, i bought the leapfrog learning table to bb when he's 11+m. he liked it and played with it almost every day for abt couple weeks to a month. then he's kinda a bit tired of it and just played with it once in a while. sometimes he tried to crawl under the table and climb to the top of the table when he's younger, although it’s too small to fit him in. sometimes he turned the whole table over. sometimes he took out all the table legs.
overall, i would say it's a good toy - worth the money (now even cheaper). also, the learning home from fisher price is good too!

Natmama,
our orginal pediatrician was also American (male). i picked him becoz i thought he's experiend (abt mid-40) and good qualification. however, after seeing him for 16 months, we decided to switch to another doctor. in general, he's not that caring and detailed and doesn't understand the Chinese culture at all. when bb had chicken-pox at 3 1/2m, he wrote up a prescription which was overdosed (should be 3ml each time instead of 5ml per his weight, and at that time his weight was still average at that time). so obviously he didn't considered the prescription by weight. we still kept seeing him, cos i thought he's experienced and maybe he's just a little careless for that time.
now the new pediatrian is Taiwanese guy who grew up in US. Although we still speak English to him, at least he undertstand the chinese culture better (like the congee, soup, etc.) also, he's a bit closer to where we live.

good for u to switch natalie to yr own bedroom earlier before she can walk. we put bb in his own room when he's abt 1 yr old. since he always tried to climb out of the crib when he could stand up and cruise at abt 7 1/2m. we just let him sleep on a twin size mattress with the bed-rails and another mattress at the other side of the room in case for whoever sleeps w/ him. til now we still hv a hard time putting him to bed. usually he doesn't want to sleep and running around in the room.
r u going to turn on the bb monitor (video or sound only) the whole night?

whalebb,
in bay area, we'll hv the 9m check up after 6m. if i remember correctly (also depends on different doctors' schedules), there's no shots at 9m. some docs order the blood test for iron deficiency test at 9m or 12m.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Nillie mami,
u're right ... my 99 is a DOM (sorry ... i don't know anything abt the titles at the hospitals in HK). she always talk to me for the terms/short forms used the hospitals and i don't understand anyway. like she asked me if my nurse friend in HK is a SNO. i told her i didn't care ...
it's so cool that now i hv u to back me up!! she always told me not to believe what the ppl said on BK, cos those are not medical professionals. also, she believes the medical systems in the british way are better than the american, after she's been with me in the labor room for 1/2 day (so much pressure for me!)

u know what?! u sounds a little like my 99. ha ha ...
she also said she wanted the nanny candidates to do the body check-up. i told her it doesn't work that way here. mostly ppl don't like it cos they might think we're so picky. after we posted the ads looking for nannies for several times, she knew that it's not that easy to get one as in HK and she's lowered her standards a bit. we had a live-in nanny for abt a couple times and then she didn't wanna work for us anymore mainly because she couldn't stand my 99. before we started to look for a nanny, she even implied that she wanted someone who's educated.

it's nice that u hv a basement for yr nanny! as far as i know, there're usually no basements in the houses in bay area except for San Francisco.
u live in brooklyn before? personally i like staten island better than brooklyn (for residence).

btw, when did u start potty-training for amanda? we already bought the bb toilet when he's 7m cos my mom said we could start. however, he couldn't sit there for a while and go away. would u share yr experience of potty training when u hv time?

Marble,
so Kyle is 1m old already! how's the incision? recovering ok? r u in SJ now? maybe i should visit u after u've recovered if u don't mind.
hope u'll get better sleep soon! u won't believe it that we still seldom hv good sleep and rest til now. our bb's been very sensitive to sounds since birth and he usually slept for abt 5 to 30 mins for each nap in the first few months and in his bouncer or carseat only. initially he started to sleep thru the night around 3m old. sigh .. but then he got chicken-pox and then really bad cough then teething, eczema, .... and now sometimes wake up in the middle of the night looking for daddy, mommy, his favorite blanky, etc.

he he ... again, Nick sounds a little like my boy. whatever u described for his behavior, my boy does exactly the same things! don't understand why he always like to wear my husband's and my slippers! i bought a pair of slippers for him but he never wore them. he still likes his daddy's the best! sometimes he's wondering how come i wear his daddy's slippers and said "mommy wear daddy shoes".

sometimes i feel like losing control of my boy! whenever it's meal time, it's battle time! when he doesn't like the food, he will say "XX not delicious" and throw them to the floor, kicking the tray (of the high chair) away (bad design) and wanna get down. when i asked him if that's right or not and if he dares to do it again, he said "not right" and "dare not" and "sorry mommy". but every time he still keeps doing that and makes such a mess.
also, trying to get things by pushing the chair/toy/whatever next to his goal as a step stool, always climb to the very top (of couches, etc), jump from the sofa and stairs, take off his clothes/socks and doesn't let u to put them back on, etc. doesn't wanna go home and get back to his carseat when going out. sigh ... don't know when he'll stop these!
People said terrible 2 (i thought it started from 1-yr-old or even from 7-8m)! he started to open cabinets to get the things out when he's 7-8m. now, even worse ... i'm so ....oooo exhausted! so i completely understand how u feel! you're SO brave to hv 2 boys!!

I'm jealous for those of you who have girls!

Shiba-Inu,
Just to give u some incentives …. I realized that mostly my friends’ babies are easier to take care of if the moms vomited a lot during pregnancy. Like my case, I seldom threw up during my whole pregnancy. However, my bb is so hard to take care of since birth. Other moms, pls correct me if I’m wrong …

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

SY_Mom,
Maybe you are right! I vomited like crazy when I was pregnant. Both my daughter & bb son are quite easy to take care of (touch wood).

It sounds like you also live in the bay area. Where is your bb's pediatrician located at?

My daughter's pediatrician is a caucasian lady who is very caring. So I picked her for my bb son's ped. as well. But someone just told me that boys should have a male ped. What do you all moms think?

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Yesterday, my pc suddenly very slow and in the evening, couldn't open the "internet explorer," so couldn't chating with gals. ( help me....... ) This morning is ok again ....he...he.... When I open again, I see part II and Part III, a little bit mess my mind, because I still see two chats in Part II. Now, I click "part III" and got it la......

Natmama & Shiba-Inu,

I agree Natmama opinion! Quote " since you will only be pregnant for a short period..................why not look your best ..........every moment. " Thus, I also make myself fresh, but I didn't buy more maternity clothes, because my cousin and my friend gave me some. I only bought one jean ( have style, when wear it , looks like very style, ha...ha... ) and one piece normal dress with burbury pattern ( my friend help me to buy and send me from HK ) Those are good style. In my pregnant period, I was nausea in the first few month, so no pretty in the beginning. After sick feeling was over, I refresh myself at once!

Little Fat Man,

Enjoy your SD trip la...Win more $$$

Marble,

Happy moving la... It seems sound good! Only 30 miles distance, not much far away from your former home. It can saving time and money!

Nilie_Mami,

You are so professional ( take care bb ) I must to learn from you more.
Last week, I bought two package diapars. ( I try others patten ) The brand I tried before and this is only different threme. Before was "mega" now is " jumbo". I opened one of them, and gave bb use two days, her pat pat and front diaper place are appear red pot ( rash, I guess ) and itch. I changed other package diaper and gave bb put the " Aquaphor from Eucerin." I still think this is diaper problem???

SY_Mom,

Isn't your 99 only for sit moon with you? And isn't she is back to HK? When I entered to hospital ( ready to labor ) I only want my husband with me. No pressure ma... Anyway, she is your husband's mom, no way la... patient and respect her law......

Whalebb,

We do not have home phone until we move-in our new house. I have mobile phone, but limit mins. What service company do you use?

I just got a bill in online, my last bill is $2xx Scare me! What??? I double check and knew that, I use 1800 toll free, they still charge my mins. If over the mins, they chare me .45 per min. I call my HK family and friend use phone card with 1800 toll. ( woo...woo...)

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Marble,
I don't have good new wor.. ha ha .. I am on pills ga.. ob/gynae does not allow me to get pregnant, because of my medical problem, she said that until my condition is stable... as my family doctor still try to figure out how much DDAVP (medicine) for me is good to control my thristy and urinate problem.. --> I have diabetes insipidus.. (too much urine)..
so in this period, won't have bb sin la.

meeemeee,
you have to go to "edit your information" on the top of the page, then go to Edit your info, then at the bottom area , it said that "signature".. then you move your mouse and, touch once, then move your mouse to the box URL, then a new window comes out, then you type in the whole online album address, then press ok, after that a new window will come up immediately and ask you for the name of that URL.. then you can write what ever you like.. such as mine one.. Amanda's online album# 26, then you press ok.. and the signature box will be filled with information, then you go to bottom of the page and press ok.. then it's done!

ha ha....SY_mom,
if you have a girl on her 1 years old and did everything your son did... you will say.. I am glad that I have a boy..
me.. Amanda.. did what you son does.. ha ha on her 1 st years old.. She even dare to jump from our bed to the floor with her "sky diving style--> tummy touch the ground first".... every time.. scare us to "die".....
anyway.. she is just too active and with a extra "bile".. ha ha beside.. she is not a food picker...XXX--> cross my fingers.. touch wood!!!
as your 99 asked...I don't know a post SNO.. may be senior nursing officer.. very seldom.. does she means.. SMO.. senior medical officer?--> that is doctor... with more experiences.
I can understand your 99's feeling.. nurses trained here.. really depends when/ and where they graduated from.. some of them.. are really.. un-qualified.
Yep yep.. we got basement, because in new york lor.. my place.. will not flood or have earthquack, so they built basements here... Brooklyn is very dirty, I don't like there.. I lived there 4 months .. seldom go out.. as I got poor hay fever.. outside is very dusty.
in Staten island, air here is fresh, road here is clean.. within the whole suburb, we are the only chinese, then you can expect.. how clean it will be, at X'mas.. all lights on, how nice it would be.
For Potty training, I start on the other page

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Whalebb,

The next checkup is for the 9 months shots. I plan on bringing Natalie back to her original pediatrician in Pasadena. The nurse seemed a lot quicker at doing the shots. Dr. Gu's nurse was so slow at doing those 3 shots, I think Natalie got scared laying on the table for that long. The original nurse, they can do all 3 within 10 sec. so by the time Natalie started crying, it's over

SY_Mom,

I just think if I switch her to her own room now, she won't notice the difference very much. I also feel bad for my husband becuz it's hard for him to get in and out of the master room when Natalie is sleeping...he has to be very quiet Right now, we have the voice monitor in my room and we will be buying a visual monitor for the bb's room. Natalie will continue to nap in my room during the day time becuz it's quieter and cooler so I will need the voice monitor to remain there.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Mrs yip..
very expensive on the bill wor... my parents call me from 1686 (HK).. as the plan in hk.. is pretty cheap.. they call us almost every day for a short chat.. may be 10-15 mins.. the point is just.. listen to Amanda's voice.. listen to her when she talks, sings and says por por, gon gon, and yee yee(my sis) yeiyei-->(naughty), dada(hit) yee yee.,, ha ha..that is what my family in hk, happy for the day!..
and I use the phone card to call back... $6 for 500 min.. very good for me la..
Actually, all diapers from different brands are using same kind of material. the rash on the her skin indicates that irritation ocurs..
try to apply the A&D or vaseline nursery jelly on the DIAPER not on the bump.. try that... when I was in hk, Kwong wah paedi, we did put the vaseline on diaper as it is a very good layer to stop the urine irritate the baby's skin.. certainly, if you can change diaper more frequently, that is good, when rash occurs, don't use baby wiper, use the cotton wool ( which comes in a roll, chinese one from chinatown pharmacy), cut in the piece 4X4 inch..... wet them with warm water, only wet the amount you will use and throw away those which is left over if wet... as bacteria growth in wet and warm enrivornment.
after clean her little bump, apply an extra thin layer of ointment which contains (Zinc Oxide), that is the medicine to heal the rash--> skin damage. If you can see skin BREAKDOWN.. then it's time to tell her paedi, because she needs more medical advice lor..
Mega to Jumbo... just more diaper in a pack.. no different to the quality of it..
also.. if you found out the rash.. when it is at the morning.. (after a night), it means the diaper does not provide the best protection for your girl... then you have to find one with better protection la.. (absolve better)..
Did I help you to solve your worries? ?-(

Marble,
Thank you for the hint on bird nest la! I hope my bb will have beautiful skin like yours!

SY-mom,
Thanks for encouraging me. I do hear that story too! Hope it's true!

Meeemeee,
It would be good if I have an adorable bb like your girl, she is so sweet to her mama! How old is she now?
Actually I was off from my office most of last week to fight against the nausea, but last few days were really bad. Maybe because of the rain as well? I just hope that I will feel and look better next week when I get back to work...

Nillie_mami,
Thanks for the lovely offer! My husband's 4th sister is also a nurse in HK and she is also very good in knitting! She knitted us tops each time we visit HK!
